Creating an Acne Diet that Works for You

An acne diet sounds like a wonderful idea. Who hasn’t heard that eating chocolate may make you break out. Everybody has. So instead of causing a break out, you could prevent it by watching what you eat.

Nevertheless, a good acne diet is not easy to develop. Being based on your body’s responses to certain foods makes it very personal. Progress, for the most part, will be trial and error. The following guidelines can help get you started on an acne diet:

1. Eat more protein. Many dermatologists think that protein intake is related to clear skin. The reason for this belief is because protein has an enzyme that will limit the production of oils. Oily skin seems to be extremely prone to breakouts.

2. Carbohydrates are not good. Do not take all carbs out of your diet. But you should try to limit your intake so that they are about 40 percent of your diet. This is because carbohydrates can stimulate oil production. This is why junk food has a reputation for causing acne. In reality, junk food is high in carbs.

3. Drink green tea. Drinking the real stuff is the best. The kind of green tea that you brew is the best kind. However, if you can’t stand the stuff, then natural green tea drinks will do. Green tea holds back androgen production. Breakouts can be caused by the hormone called androgen.

4. Limit your total intake of salt. Most salt contains iodine. This being the reason table salt can be called “iodized salt.” For some people with acne, iodine can be a major inflammatory agent.

You must always be careful of what you eat and put on your face. You already know what is in your beauty products if you have acne. Natural and organic skin care lines are the best acne prone skin. Products containing natural ingredients will least likely irritate your skin. If you wear makeup, then consider investing in mineral makeup. By using mineral makeup you may actually ease acne problems and increase the results of your acne diet.
